In-class activities:  Take additional notes for open note quiz.
Notes:
  • Slavery already existed in Africa before Europeans arrived.
  • The Atlantic Slave trade started in the mid-15th century (1450)
  • The Muslim Ottoman Empire conquered the Byzantine Empire and sacked Constantinople in modern-day Turkey.
  • Wealthy merchants and traders benefited most from the slave trade.
  • In addition to working on sugar farms, enslaved Africans also worked in mines and on plantations.
  • Beginning in the 8th century, Arab Muslim traders and African Muslims exported more than 17 million Africans to India, the Middle East, and North Africa.
Take open note quiz, then work on map activity 45:  "Three Worlds Meet"

  • Complete Chapter 17 Review pg. 518:  ALL QUESTIONS
